2013: A Year in Review

Ah, 2013...how I've both loved and loathed thee. It's been an interesting year, to say the least.

Let's start with January. This was the first full month I got to spend living with my husband. Our house wasn't completed just yet, but we had a place to stay with our (now) neighbor and Kevin's friend from college. I started flying training officially this month. It wasn't all bad. I got a little nauseous the first time, but it wasn't as bad as I'd heard. She's a quirky jet, but she gets the job done, I s'pose.

In February, we moved into our house, finally! The in-laws came down to help us get settled. We took a little break from unpacking and went to Branson for the first time. I don't recommend doing this during the off season like we did. It's kind of boring. They're really not a happening place in winter. This also marks the month of sickness, in which both Kevin and I caught an upper respiratory infection/bronchitis. Surprising, considering it was such a warm winter.

Then comes March. I really didn't like March. It was probably the longest month of the year for me. I was horribly ill most of the month. I mostly remember the pain, both in my body and in my heart and mind. I found out I was pregnant on the 9th, and after a month filled with despair, hopelessness, and the inability to walk, it was over. Just like that, my child died on the 27th, and there was no more pain--physically, that is. Even today, I deal with the scars. It's surreal to think about, and when I do talk about it, I realize how much I really don't remember. I don't know if details have faded with time or if it was always like this. I guess I'll never know.

April. Another poorly executed month. I finally started flying again, but I really found myself lacking the desire to go back to work. I attributed it to being in training and forced myself to go through and get it over with.

In May, I finished flying training and decided it was time to take some much needed leave from work. If only I'd known that God had other plans than relaxation. My first day of leave, a deadly tornado swept through our town, missing our house by less than a mile. I realize now that this is when I started referring to Moore as our home. Before that, it was just where we lived. Now, it's that lovable little place that sometimes makes you shake your head in exasperation, but at the same time makes you smile when you're coming back to it. It's not quite like Norman, which will always hold a special place in my heart and I will always call home, but it's close. It's sort of this little piece of heaven when you get right down to it. You can't beat the people. Their tenacity and willingness to help in those few days just inspires you. I could go on and on about the love of a community gathered together after a disaster, but it just seems cliched nowadays.

Let's see...then there was June. I had another round of training--this time only two weeks long--that I finished on June 13th and FINALLY made it to my permanent squadron. It was a step forward for me, and I was proud of myself for all of two weeks before the reality of goverment funding (or lack thereof) set in.

Now for July. This was a big month for me, because this was the month I decided to relaunch my Arbonne business. It was a mad dash to get booked for August and qualify for District Manager, but I did it! And it's been tons of fun so far.

As I mentioned, August was my first full up month back with Arbonne. I was able to get everything I needed to promote to District Manager in the month of August. Unfortunately, I also managed to nearly break my foot walking across my yard (a flat surface) and was out of commission on several counts when it came to that. I had yet another round of training with the Air Force that lasted through September, but other than that, not much to report for that month.

September was somewhat uneventful, but October began a few weeks of craziness. My cousin got married on the 26th, and I was the photographer. I will, haltingly, admit that it was my first wedding in some time. So many people are afraid to hire a photographer with less experience. It's a sad but true fact, and I don't blame them. I really hope that as my portfolio expands, this changed. Nevertheless, I am so glad that she chose me to be her photographer. I had tons of fun and can't wait to see that part of the family again!

There is a sad part to the weekend, however. On the way back from that wedding, a close friend of mine, whom I've long considered my brother, uninvited me from his wedding a few weeks following. To say how that made me--and still makes me--would make this post much longer and more complicated than it needs to be. Put simply, here I am left with gifts but no address and no way to really contact either him or his new wife. I pray constantly that he is in good health.

November kicked off with another wedding. Kevin and I flew to California so he could be the best man for his best friend's wedding. The next week, we rented a plane and flew to a Josh Groban concert in Dallas. That was a whole 'nother fiasco. Apparently, I had been selected to meet Josh, but got there too late to use the backstage pass that I won. It was a beautiful concert, but I was a bit disappointed, as can be expected. I remember thinking how it just figured with the year it had been thus far.

Rounding out November was Thanksgiving in our house. Both Kevin's family (aunt and grandparents included) and my family came for a lovely, but quite large gathering. And of course, wouldn't you know it, Kevin's family hadn't been in town 5 minutes and their car got robbed! What a story to tell! Not to mention that, true to form, Oklahoma turned down the temperature for the California in-laws. I swear, every time. They're going to think we're nothing but cold!

And now December has just ended, and I'd love to tell you about it, but I can't. The wounds from its attack are still too fresh on my heart. I sit here typing this thinking back on the year, its ups and downs, and praying that next year is brighter.

2014 marks my 25th year on this earth. It holds so much potential, but then again, so did 2013. It's been three disappointing years in a row, and it's getting kind of hard to be optimistic. Still, I shall try. I've got nothing left but to try.

Diary of a Crazy Redhead

I was just updating Twitter when I realized I hadn't made my way over here in a while. I'm really bad at this... It really does take 30 days to make a habit. I can attest to that...my hubby and I are doing a 30 day challenge to keep the bed made and the bedroom tidied up...we've missed 6 days so far, but we're 25 days in, so at least we're starting to get there, right? Same with starting up my skincare regime again...that was a losing battle at first, but I got it...with the occasional exception of falling asleep before washing my face at night (although my new Genius has helped keep that from happening) or waking up only to find that the training I thought started at 9 actually started at 8 and forgetting...

Ah, what an interesting week.

How, you ask? Where shall I begin?

Kevin's parents came by on their way to Branson over the weekend. We went to the fair. They're supposed to come back this weekend and I have no idea what to do to entertain them. I suppose we'll figure it out...Do any of you have a suggestion where to take the in-laws in the OKC Metro area? They're from California, if that helps.

On Sunday, we went to the fair... This is a new record for me. I don't think I've gone to the State Fair so frequently in one year. It was fun though...riding the carnival rides and getting sunburned. We went with a couple friends I'd been thinking of introducing for a while...and they got along a lot better than I even imagined. For anyone who knows me, I am not a matchmaker. The few times in my life I've tried anything close, it...well, it just hasn't gone well. But I digress...my bottom line with them was I thought they'd make good friends. Looks like I was definitely right on that count. Before I embarass them anymore, I'll move on... ;-)

...Let's see...

...

Oh, I almost completely forgot I had an Ultimate In Home Party in Norman on Saturday! I went with Arbonne's nutrition line and just had a complete blast meeting some great networkers in the area. We'll definitely have to do it again sometime! For anyone who's interested in seeing what we have, especially for the holidays, I've got it all and am completely open to treating you to a personal meet the products at my house! Just give me a call or email or whatever works best for you. Aside from that, I've got the Mommy and Me Shopping Spree coming up at the Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City next Sunday, the 6th of October from 2-6pm. Check it out! Tell your friends! It's going to be exciting!

But anywho...I just wanted to drop a word to let you know what's going on... Until next time!

Indian Summer

Okay, so you have my permission to slap me.

Or however you say that.

I'm trying okay? Sometimes I forget...maybe I should set a reminder on my phone? I don't know...

Anyway, I thought now might be a good time to give you a rundown about life these days.

First of all, I just want to shout from the rooftops that:

I AM A DISTRICT MANAGER IN ARBONNE INTERNATIONAL!!!!

Loud enough for you? Good. I made it! I finally made it. Here's to a bright future for my team, my upline, and everyone else I meet along the way! I'm going to be an Area Manager by the end of the year, and be smelling the leather of the white Mercedes I'll be getting next year!

There, I've said it. Now all of you know, and I will have to meet that goal or disappoint myself and all of you. That being said (shameless plug), if you'd like to learn more about Arbonne, hop on over to sweetfreedom.myarbonne.com and fill out the form at the bottom of the page, give me a call, or email me. I'd love to share my experience!

Also, I just received all of my holiday line and have set it up in my dining room for anyone who chooses to come take a look, so let me know if that's something you'd be open to doing!

Holiday Display, Phase II
Moving on, it's been quite warm here for September--in the 90s almost every day, in fact. Yeah, I know, not as warm as it has been the past few years, but wow...it's hot. I can't wait for the crisp, cool autumn air. I've already put out a fall wreath, I'm so excited for the changing weather.

Of course, it being September, Kevin and I took a trip up to the State Fair last weekend with my parents. I won 5th place with that little blue end table I refinished and antiqued. Not bad, considering it's my first year entering in that category. My mom entered her Bargellow into the Fair this year, as well, and won 4th! I'm so proud of her. I can't wait to see what else she'll win if she keeps entering every year.

So my parents visited last weekend, and Kevin's parents are coming in on their way to Branson from California this weekend. It's certainly a full month! I have something every weekend, but I'm not complaining! It beats being bored. Speaking of not being bored, Kevin is finally finishing the rock path in the front yard that we started in the spring. It should be finished by tomorrow, actually. I'll be sure to take a picture if you'll promise to ignore the mess the front flowerbed is with the bermuda grass we can't seem to kill or prevent. I spent 5 hours weeding this tiny little corner of the flowerbed on Sunday only to lose daylight and barely make a dent!
Bermuda grass, bermuda grass, you are such a pain in my ass.
I think that's it...I'll probably realize later that I forgot something, but I go on crew rest in a few minutes, so I kind of need to wrap this up anyway. Until next time!

Labor Day and a Summer Cold

Leave it to me to get sick in the middle of summer while on leave. I don't know if it's just a cold or a sinus infection (some of the stuff I've been sneezing suggests the latter).

I feel like I've got this huge disgusting thing on my face and can't get rid of it. And my eyes won't stop watering. I have a headache. I just want to complain because nothing is making me feel better.

We're having a garage sale tomorrow (finally!), and it's the end of the month, so I really, really can't afford this right now! Gah!

At least I have this four-day weekend to maybe recover so when I go back to work on Tuesday I can do more than sniffle and sneeze.

Happy Labor Day Weekend everybody!

On Leave

So I decided to take leave for the rest of the month to decompress. It's been great...sleeping in both days so far just felt amazing. DH is flying today so I won't see him for quite a while, but that's okay. I feel like I got quite a bit accomplished today. I mowed both of our lots and Shawn's front lawn. I was a little scared to try and fit the Deere through his gate, so I'll have to do that tomorrow or have Kevin do it on Saturday while I'm away doing parties.

Speaking of parties, I'm super excited because I've got two business builders I'm helping out. They're both wonderful girls, and I can't wait to see them succeed! Anyway, I'm trying to figure out better ways to market myself so I can pass that on to them when the time comes, since we all exhaust our warm market eventually. I want to give them options, and I want to know what works and what doesn't.

Do any of you have suggestions or experience? I mean, really, I'm kind of clueless when it comes to the marketing side of things...

New Effort

In an effort to post to this blog at least once a week, I am going to set a reminder in my phone. Feel free to call me out on this if I go more than 8 days without posting, okay? Seriously, this is getting ridiculous.

You know, I didn't used to be like this. I actually can finish things I start. I don't know what's gotten into me lately. There's just so much going on.

Probably the biggest: I relaunched my home business in hopes of giving myself better options in the future after the Air Force. No, not Virginia Lambert Photography (that one has always been around, even in Florida)...the other one. You know, Arbonne. Yes, I'm an Arbonne consultant. I have been for a couple of years, actually, and I do have to say that all that stuff you see on the internet sites really doesn't do it justice. I've met some amazing people with this business and I've sold some product that really does what it says.

But I digress... If you really want to check it out or get information, click the image:

Virginia Lambert is a Member of Arbonne International on BetterNetworker.com Company Profiles

So onto other things...Kevin is still in training. He'll hopefully be done by the end of September, though, and at the squadron with me! It'll be nice to have more than the daily grind at work. At least we'll be able to visit each other more easily then.

My kitty, Bridgette has been very sick. We're hoping it's mostly cleared up now, but she started out with a really bad urinary/bladder/kidney/liver infection or something like that. The vet still isn't quite sure what was going on with that. Now, she's got...other issues... Let's just leave it at that, but she's just been miserable locked in the laundry room all day with no interaction with us.

Speaking of under the weather, you could say that I've been there, since I sprained my ankle on the 3rd of August. I've been on crutches since the 7th until they're sure I didn't tear anything, and let me say that those stupid things should be renamed torture devices. It wasn't so bad when I was on my medication...well, at least pain wise. Unfortunately, I was so terribly loopy and nauseous the whole time...we think I was allergic to it because of a rash that developed on my arms. Anyway, now the pain is bad...even my hands hurt.

Sorry for the complaining. I'm a little ADD tonight. Maybe I'll have something better tomorrow. :)
